Description
All employees who may be required to use a fire extinguisher should be trained on the following items, as serious repercussions may ensue if the employee is unaware of any of the following:
- Type of fire risk in the workplace (e.g., electrical, chemical, etc.)
- Selection of proper fire extinguisher class for each type of fire
- How to read the markings (symbols and colours) on extinguishers
- When and how to use fire extinguishers (P.A.S.S. method)
- The importance of sounding the alarm
- Health and safety hazards associated with fire in the workplace
- Personal protective equipment associated with fire protection
The Fire Extinguisher Awareness course will outline all of these topics and more, including: the appropriate legislation, effectiveness of a fire extinguisher, fire extinguisher location, type and selection of fire extinguishers, fire extinguisher methods, and inspections, maintenance, service, recharging, and record keeping of fire extinguishers.
