Supervisor Competency

Description

Competency is defined in the Occupational Health and Safety Act as an individual who is qualified because of knowledge, training, and experience to safely and effectively organize work and its performance. The competent individual is familiar with this Act and the Regulations that apply to the work they perform or supervise.

Barantas offers a two-day course in Supervisor Competency to provide supervisors with an understanding of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and knowledge of any potential or actual danger to health or safety in the workplace. This course is designed to make supervisors, managers, project managers, employers, owners, and constructors aware of the legalities applicable to their workplace. Following this course individuals, will become competent in the following arenas:

• The fundamentals of the laws that govern the workplaces in Ontario
• The rights and responsibilities of all workplace parties
• The necessary parameters required ensuring compliance on jobsites and in manufacturing/industrial facilities
• The concept of “Due Diligence” and how it is expressed as the reasonable framework of care an individual has taken to protect the safety of another
• Hazard identification and risk management
• Steps for recognizing and rectifying immediate hazards
• Developing safe working practices and procedures
• Assessing culture in the workplace
• Fostering a positive work environment
• WSIB and Early and Safe Return-to-Work processes (including case studies and modified duty development based on functional ability)
