Confined Space Entry & Attendant

Hands-on entrant and attendant training: gas monitors, ventilation, harnesses and tripod/winch retrieval

SKU: CSA_002-1 Categories: , ,

Description

This in-depth, hands-on course is for workers who will physically enter confined spaces (entrants) and those who stand outside to monitor the space and maintain communication (attendants). It builds on Confined Space Awareness and focuses on the practical skills and active hazard control needed for confined space work on site.

Ontario Regulation 632/05, Confined Spaces, requires every worker who enters a confined space or performs related work to receive adequate training in safe work practices, in accordance with the employer’s confined space plan. This course provides the practical foundation for that training.

Who it is for

  • Entrants: workers who physically go inside the confined space
  • Attendants: workers who stay outside to monitor the space, keep track of entrants and maintain communication

What you will learn

  • Review of confined space hazards and Ontario Regulation 632/05
  • Reading and following the hazard assessment, plan and entry permit
  • Operating atmospheric gas monitors: bump testing, pre-entry testing and continuous monitoring
  • Acceptable atmospheric levels for oxygen, flammable gases and toxic substances
  • Setting up and managing ventilation and purging systems
  • Isolating energy sources and controlling material movement
  • Selecting, inspecting and wearing full body harnesses
  • Attendant duties, entrant tracking and methods of communication
  • Setting up non-entry rescue retrieval systems, including tripods and winches
  • Emergency response and on-site rescue procedures

Why it is a higher level than awareness

The awareness course teaches workers to recognize confined spaces and their hazards. This course teaches workers to actively control those hazards and to operate the equipment used during entry, monitoring and retrieval.

Workers must also receive site-specific training under their employer’s confined space program. Rescue team members need additional training in first aid, CPR and the rescue equipment identified in the plan.

Prerequisite: Confined Space Awareness is recommended.

Course length: Full day (8 hours)  |  Class size: up to 12 students. Minimum class size required.
